Blanket Cover
Blanket Cover is a group of 3 IMPA-coded items (codes 150288–150355) under Bed Accessories in the Cloth & Linen Products section (IMPA 15). They are priced per sheet (2) and per piece (1). The list runs through 2 metric sizes from 1400×2000 mm to 1800×2300 mm.
Buying guide
A blanket cover is a washable cloth case for a blanket. It keeps the blanket clean, so the cover is laundered with the bed linen and the blanket much less often. The group lists a cover for a 1800 × 2300 mm blanket (actual size 1800 × 2400 mm), a cover for a 1400 × 2000 mm blanket (actual 1500 × 2100 mm), and a cover made to further details. They are counted by the sheet.
The chief steward or the master orders them with the bed linen for crew and passenger berths, sized to the blankets on board. Wool and flame-retardant blankets of 1400 × 2000 mm are listed in neighbouring groups.
How to specify it
Give the size of the blanket it must fit, not the berth. The catalogue codes are named for the blanket size, and the cover itself is cut larger. Order enough for the laundry cycle: one on the berth, one in the wash and spares.
For the "further details" item, give the blanket size, fabric and colour. Say if a flame-retardant fabric is needed to match the ship’s flame-retardant bedding.
Rules and certificates
MLC, 2006 Guideline B3.1.10: the shipowner should supply clean bedding to all seafarers for use on board, and the bedding should be of good quality. Seafarers return it at times set by the master and when they leave the ship. Standard A3.1 requires a separate berth for each seafarer, at least 198 × 80 cm inside.[1]
In an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness, WHO guidance asks for contaminated linens to be bagged carefully, for example in soluble alginate bags with a colour-coded outer bag, without raising aerosols. They are then laundered as infected linen.[2]
Questions buyers ask
- What size blanket cover fits a single berth?
- Order by the blanket, not the berth. For a 1400 × 2000 mm blanket the catalogue cover is actually 1500 × 2100 mm. MLC sets the minimum berth at 198 × 80 cm inside.
- Who supplies bedding on a ship?
- Under MLC, 2006 Guideline B3.1.10, the shipowner supplies clean, good-quality bedding to all seafarers for use on board.
