Packing and jointing is the sealing stock of the engine room: gland packing by section in PTFE, graphite and aramid, jointing sheet in rubber, compressed fibre and cork, ready-cut flange gaskets to JIS and DIN, O-rings by dimension and material, oil seals, and PTFE and sealing tapes. The chief engineer keeps it and raises it with each machinery overhaul.
