Setting up a marine business in Dubai: activities, codes and approvals

Every Dubai trade licence names the activities a company may carry on. Each page below says which activity covers the business, which approvals sit on top of the licence, the steps and documents, and what the sources say about time and cost.

The activities below are the marine ones on Dubai’s mainland list, each with its Jebel Ali Free Zone equivalent where one exists. The guides are built from official texts — Invest in Dubai, the federal Maritime Law, Dubai Maritime Authority resolutions, Dubai Customs and the free zones’ own pages — and each claim cites its source.

Each page ends with one short note on where GeoMarineHub fits for that licence holder.

Suppliers to ships

Licences whose holders sell to vessels — they register as suppliers and bid sealed on requisitions.

Buyers, owners and charterers

Licences whose holders run, hire or buy vessels — the demand side, which uses the platform free.

Port and marine services

Service licences — some have a line on the platform, some do not yet; each page says which.

Check before you apply

  • — Names, codes and listed details were read from the Invest in Dubai business-activity search on 10 October 2026. The list is revised; check the live entry before you apply.
  • — Rules, fees and timelines change. Confirm each approval with the authority named before you commit to premises or staff.
  • — GeoMarineHub does not issue licences, help obtain them or act as a business-setup agent. Nothing here is legal or tax advice.
  • — Activity codes are Dubai mainland codes. Free zones and the other emirates keep their own activity lists and codes.
