CYLINDER GAUGE 250-400MM, 0.01MM GRADUATION 651416
Dial cylinder (bore) gauge set for 250–400 mm bores, 0.01 mm graduation: what the set holds, how it is zeroed, extension rods and the neighbouring sizes.
What it is
A cylinder gauge, also called a dial bore gauge, measures inside diameters. A measuring head with an interchangeable anvil and a moving contact point sits at the end of a long stem, and a dial indicator on top shows how far the contact point moves. On board it is the engineer’s tool for reading the wear and ovality of cylinder liners, bushes and bearing bores along their length.[1]
This code covers the 250 to 400 mm range with a 0.01 mm graduation, the largest of the six cylinder gauges in the IMPA family. It suits engines and pumps whose bores fall in that range. The gauge is comparative: it shows the difference from a size you set, so it is used with a reference such as a setting ring or an outside micrometer.[2]
How to specify and order it
The unit is SET. One gauge covers 150 mm of range by changing anvils and spacers, so the set must arrive with all of them. In one maker’s standard series, the 250–400 mm gauge comes with five anvils and seven spacers, using a 75 mm sub-anvil. Ask the supplier to list the anvils, spacers and accessories in the quote, so two bids for the “same” set can be compared.[1]
The code fixes the range and the 0.01 mm graduation. It does not say whether the dial indicator is included, because makers sell the same gauge head with or without one. It also leaves out extension rods and setting rings. The maker cited here offers optional extension rods, from 125 mm to 750 mm, for measuring deep holes with its larger gauges. If you need to measure a long liner, state the depth to reach and order the rod with the gauge.[1][2]
Check the bore before choosing the code. The next size down, IMPA 651415, covers 160 to 250 mm, so a 250 mm bore fits either. Nothing in this family goes above 400 mm. The same maker builds the gauge head with a 0.001 mm indicator as a separate model, so say “0.01 mm” if a supplier offers a finer version. Ask for a calibration certificate if the ship’s planned maintenance system needs one.[1]
Questions buyers ask
- Does a cylinder gauge read the bore size directly?
- No. It is a comparative gauge. You zero it against a known size, such as a setting ring or an outside micrometer, and the dial then shows the difference from that size.
- Is the dial indicator included in IMPA 651416?
- The code does not say. Makers sell the gauge head with or without the indicator, so ask the supplier to confirm it is included, with all the anvils and spacers.
