PUMP SPRAY BOTTLE PLASTIC, 500ML FOR GENERAL PURPOSE 550619

Empty 500 ml plastic pump spray bottle, sold by the bottle: what the code leaves open, keeping one bottle per chemical, and why cleaners never get mixed.

What it is

IMPA 550619 is an empty 500 ml plastic spray bottle with a pump head, for general purposes, supplied by the bottle. It is the only item in its catalogue group. On board it carries a working dilution of a cleaner or disinfectant from the store drum to the cabin, galley or wash place.

How to specify and order it

The code fixes the capacity (500 ml) and that the bottle is plastic. It leaves the spray head open: a trigger or a finger pump, a fixed mist or an adjustable mist-and-jet nozzle. If the crew prefer one type, say so, or the bottles will be whatever the supplier holds.

Say what will go in the bottles. A general-purpose bottle suits mild detergents and water. For solvents, acids, strong alkalis or chlorine products, name the product so the supplier can offer a bottle and seals that will not swell or leak, or advise against decanting it.

Order enough to keep one bottle for each product in use, labelled for it, rather than refilling one bottle with different chemicals. COSWP warns that caustic soda and bleaching powders or liquids can burn or penetrate the skin, may react dangerously with other substances and should never be mixed. A bottle that held one cleaner can still hold residue when another is poured in.[1]

Rules and approvals

COSWP: read all labels on chemical containers before opening them, and do not use a chemical from an unlabelled container unless you can clearly find out what it is. Among its measures for hazardous substances is the use of closed and clearly labelled containers.[1]

Questions buyers ask

Can one spray bottle be used for different cleaners?
Better not. Keep one labelled bottle for each product. COSWP warns that products such as caustic soda and bleach may react dangerously with other substances and should never be mixed.
