CLEANER VACUUM HANDY CYCLONE, CENTRIFUGAL SEPARATION AC110V 174683
IMPA 174683, a bagless handheld cyclone vacuum cleaner for AC 110 V ships. 110 V vs 220 V (174684), sockets, filters and what to state on the order.
What it is
IMPA 174683 is a small handheld vacuum cleaner that uses cyclone (centrifugal) separation, for a ship with a 110 V AC supply to the accommodation sockets. It is for cabins, the bridge, offices and the mess, where a full-size cleaner is too bulky. The only other item in the group is the same cleaner for AC 220 V, 174684.
In a cyclonic cleaner the air and dirt enter the cyclone and spin round its axis. The spin forces the debris out to the wall, and it drops into a debris collector that can be removed and emptied. A filter sits after the cyclone stage. The cleaner therefore needs no dust bags, but it does need its filter.[1]
How to specify and order it
The voltage is the whole difference between 174683 and 174684, so check the socket voltage where the cleaner will be used before choosing. Many ships have more than one voltage on board. US rules give 110 V and 220 V as the example and require each socket to stop a portable device being plugged into a socket of the wrong voltage or type of power. Each socket must also be compatible with the voltage and current of its circuit. A 110 V cleaner with the wrong plug will not go into a 220 V socket on such a ship, and it should not.[2][3]
The code fixes the type and the voltage only. State the supply frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz) and the plug type of the ship’s sockets. Ask for a spare filter with the cleaner: in the cyclone design cited here, the filter after the cyclone is removed and replaced through a filter cover. The unit is SET: one cleaner with the accessories the maker packs with it. Ask the supplier to list what the set includes.[1]
Rules and approvals
The usual safety standard for this kind of appliance is IEC 60335-2-2, adopted in Europe as EN IEC 60335-2-2:2023. It covers electric vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances for household and similar purposes, with a rated voltage of not more than 250 V, and also covers motorised cleaning heads and current-carrying hoses. A 110 V or a 220 V cleaner both fall inside that limit. If the company asks for a tested appliance, state the standard on the order.[4]
Questions buyers ask
- What is the difference between IMPA 174683 and 174684?
- Only the supply voltage. 174683 is the handy cyclone vacuum cleaner for AC 110 V; 174684 is the same cleaner for AC 220 V. Order the one that matches the sockets where it will be used.
- Does a cyclone vacuum cleaner need dust bags?
- No. The cyclone spins the dirt out of the air into a removable debris collector that is emptied. It still has a filter after the cyclone, so order a spare filter.
