Medicine
Medicine is a section of the IMPA marine stores catalogue (section 39), arranged in 6 groups.
About this section
Medicine is the ship’s hospital: the medicines on the flag-state scale, dressings and bandages, sterile instruments, splints and stretchers, oxygen and resuscitation equipment, and the first-aid kits carried in the engine room and lifeboats. The master is responsible for it and raises the requisition against the expiry check, usually with the medical certificate inspection in view.
Controlled and prescription medicines are supplied only through a licensed pharmacy in the port, and quantities follow the scale for the vessel’s trade and crew size. State the flag and the scale on the requirement.
