What kind of port is Duqm, and what does it handle?

The Port of Duqm is the gateway to the Special Economic Zone at Duqm and is run by the Port of Duqm Company, a 50-50 joint venture between Asyad Group and the Antwerp Port Consortium. An 8.7 km breakwater encloses an 18 m basin reached by a 19 m entry channel.[1]

—The commercial quay is 2.2 km long with a guaranteed 18 m alongside. On it: a container terminal with a 1,130 m quay, a 34-hectare yard and over 600 reefer plugs, planned to grow from 200,000 TEU towards 1.7 million TEU; a dry bulk terminal of about 5 million tonnes a year; and a multipurpose terminal for project cargo, steel, OCTG pipe and heavy lifts.[2]

—A liquid bulk terminal on 70 hectares of reclaimed land opened with 7 berths in 2019, with a 40-hectare second phase planned; the port also has a Ro-Ro terminal and a navy terminal.[2]

What does a drydock call at Duqm involve?

The ship repair yard inside the port, operating since 2011, has two dry-dock basins of 410 m by 95 m and 410 m by 80 m, about 2,800 m of repair berths and 453,000 m² of yard.[6]

—Now Asyad Drydock, the yard rates its two graving docks for vessels up to 500,000 and 600,000 dwt, has added a floating dock, and docks VLCCs, tankers, car carriers, bulkers and cruise ships. It repaired more than 230 vessels in each of 2024 and 2025, logged its 2,200th docking in 2026, and reported docking numbers up more than 10% in the first five months of 2026.[7]

—The yard’s pitch is the position: on the Arabian Sea along the Asia–Europe and Asia–Africa lanes, so a ship can dock without a detour into the Gulf.[7]

—The 2026 Gulf conflict reached Duqm: drones struck fuel tanks at the port in early March 2026, and port activities and Asyad Drydock were suspended for a time. Windward counts Duqm, with Salalah and Sohar, among the only major regional ports outside both the Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb threat zones.[8,9]

What must a vessel calling at Duqm arrange?

—Port Control first: marine services — pilotage and tugs, linesmen, household waste reception and oil-spill recovery — are ordered through the Port Control Office (VHF 14/16). The outer pilot station is at 19°42.5′N 057°50.0′E, the inner at 19°42.2′N 057°45.3′E.[3,4]

—Bunkers: NIMR International supplies MGO, VLSFO and marine lubes in port and in the dedicated anchorage areas under a long-term agreement with the Port of Duqm Company, from barges with 5,000 tonnes of capacity.[5]

—Around a docking: owner’s spares, stores and provisions timed to the yard period, and crew logistics for the riding squad and any crew change — agree delivery with the yard and your agent.

—Provisions, stores and fresh water for a cargo or repair call: post a requirement and chandlers serving Duqm answer with sealed bids — suppliers never see the vessel’s name until award. If you supply ships or yards in Duqm, be the first supplier in.
